Google Timeline → NubiMap

Fill your footsteps with Google Maps Timeline

Bring in the places Google Maps has recorded, clear the fog on your map, and turn past trips into a footsteps reel. The file is read on your phone and never uploaded.

A footsteps reel made in NubiMap from a real trip — Korea to Indonesia and back.

Why now

Google Timeline now lives only on your phone

Google moved Timeline to on-device storage, and the web map is gone. One file exported from the Google Maps app is enough to bring years of visits back onto your NubiMap.

  1. Export Timeline from Google Maps

    01
  2. Pick NubiMap in the share sheet

    02
  3. Your map fills in

How to import on iPhone

Export from Google Maps, pick NubiMap in the share sheet, done. No saving or moving files around.

Your file never leaves your phone

The file is read only on this device. Only coordinates and times are sent to the server — the original file is never uploaded.

The Android app is in development. For now, importing works on iPhone.

  1. 01

In the Google Maps app, tap your profile picture and open Settings.

  2. 02

Go to “Location & privacy settings”.

  3. 03

Scroll down and tap “Export Timeline data”.

  4. 04

Choose 'NubiMap' in the share sheet — the import starts right away.

Good to know

Last 5 years by default

The first import suggests the last five years; later imports preselect the period you haven't imported yet. You can change the range anytime.

Pick a detail level

Low imports visited places only; Standard and High also include travel routes.

Safe to re-import

The same records are never duplicated, and an interrupted import can be resumed.

Fresh exports only

Old Google Takeout files aren't supported yet. Use a file exported from the Google Maps app on your phone.

After the import

Turn your footsteps into a reel

Once your map is filled in, choose a period, then pick the length, motion effect and colors. The finished video is ready for Reels and Shorts.

  • Choose a period

A single trip or several years — only the stretch you want.

  • Length, effect, colors

Tune the video to your taste.

  • Share right away

Save it and post to Reels or Shorts.

Frequently asked questions

The Google Timeline website is gone. How do I get my history?

Google now keeps Timeline only on your phone. In the Google Maps app, “Export Timeline data” creates a file, and NubiMap reads that file onto your map.

Does an old Google Takeout export work?

Not yet. Please use a file freshly exported from the Google Maps app on your phone.

What is sent to the server?

The file is read only on your phone. Only coordinates and times are sent — the original file is never uploaded.

Can I import on Android?

The Android app is in development. For now, importing works in NubiMap on iPhone.

How far back can I import?

There is no date limit; the first import suggests the last five years. Each import has a size cap, so very large histories are imported in smaller periods.
